The Hall for Arts Education Building shows some recent progress on the east facing front facade:
Brick restoration and tuck-pointing that was completed in late September, 2009 and three new energy-efficient windows on the second floor.
Workmen from Williams Custom Trim and Remodel recent removed the first floor exterior wall and built a temporary exterior wall.
A new exterior wall will soon be constructed that will feature a restored double door entry with 10' tall hand-crafted doors.
Next up for the FAD project is the exterior facade renovation of the KOP (Knight of Pythias) building at 104 South Camden Street. Masonry repair is scheduled to being in September. Immediately following the masonry work a new first floor wall will be constructed along with new exterior windows and entrance door.
Visitors immediately notice the new paint when entering through the north entrance. Highlighted to the left is the detail of one of the stamped metal ornaments that was restored in the mid-1990's.
During the painting process a few areas of brick needed some un-planned, but necessary tuck-pointing. Chamberlin Contracting, Inc. of Kansas City provided the repairs on short notice and did not hinder the paint work that was in progress at the same time.
Farris staff will complete curb painting and some minor sidewalk repair on the west exit ramp, completing the exterior improvements at the Farris building.
A.T. Switzer Painting Company of Kansas City was awarded the bid for exterior painting of the Farris Theatre building. The first step was to give the Farris a pressure-washer bath. The paint had last been painted in 1996 during the Farris restoration.
Below is the finished paint of the east side under the shadows of an August late afternoon. The adjoining KOP and FOE buildings will be painted with a similar color scheme later in the Farris Arts District project to "tie together" all of the properties.

After applying one inch of foam over all horizontal and vertical roof surfaces, two coating processes are added to create a monolithic roof structure.

Washington Roofing and Insulation of Great Bend, KS was awarded the first major contract of the Farris Arts District Project in March, 2009. Crews worked for approximately 8 days over a three week period to install a new roof system on the Farris Theatre building, the KOP building and the FOE building.
