Farris Theatre Concert Series

A concert series featuring internationally and locally renowned musicians is coming to the Farris Theatre.

John McEuen, a founding member of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, will kick off the series with a performance on Oct. 17, 2009.  Since 1966, McEuen has recorded more than 30 albums with the Dirt Band. When performing alone, McEuen exhibits his solo skills on the acoustic guitar, banjo, fiddle and mandolin.

Connie Dover and Friends will follow on Nov. 7, 2009.  Dover, an Emmy Award winning acoustic music producer, is renowned for her voice and musical arrangements, particularly when she performs Celtic tunes.  For this performance, her “friends” are Kelly Werts and Doug Goodhardt.

The River Cow Orchestra will take the stage on Feb. 5, 2010. Featuring area jazz musician and longtime teacher Erik Pointer, the orchestra calls its music 21st Century fare—music that ignores the rules.

The Kansas City Brass will round out the series April 15, 2010. The five-piece brass ensemble features musicians from the Kansas City Symphony, including former Richmond resident, tubist Steve Seward.

Performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. except for the River Cow Orchestra, which will begin at 8 p.m.

Series sponsors are the Ray County Community Arts Association, the Richmond Rotary Club, Waters Farms, Inc., Westbrook & Co., the Richmond Super 8 Motel, The Daily News, Mike and Vickie McCalley, Tom Bowman and Sara Seidel.

            Reserved seating tic
kets for the series are now on sale for $60 at The Farris Theatre box office,  call(816) 776-6684.

FAD Mural Nearing Completion
Farris Arts District
RHS instructor and Farris volunteer Jared Ripley directs the mural design.
Richmond High School art instructor and Farris Volunteer Jared Ripley, along with members of the RHS Art Club have designed a hand painted mural that depicts the many opportunities provided by the Farris Arts District (FAD) project.  The colorful concept was developed by Ripley in the early spring.  Students began site work in April and were unable to complete the project due to rainy weather the last weeks of the school year.  "We appreciate very much the dedication of Mr. Ripley and his students to complete the mural project during their summer vacation.  The mural will be helpful in promoting the FAD project and add a certain element of curiosity to passersby."  Stated Friends of the Farris board president Rob Swafford.  The mural is expected to be complete in June.  Click on the picture above learn more about the FAD Project.
